La Manifattura Tabacchi Verona
Strategically located, La Manifattura Tabacchi Verona is the link between Verona's southern gate, Veronafiere and the former railyard.
The area's regeneration will bring a new district with a commercial area, that includes retail, restaurant and food court, office buildings, budget and lifestyle hotels, leisure facilities, green areas and an underground car park.
Soft mobility is at the centre of the initiative, with pedestrian and cycling-pedestrian paths winding through a system of squares, including the symbolic Piazza della Ciminiera, a pedestrian bridge and a public square at the south of the site which will connect La Manifattura Tabacchi to Veronafiera, in addition to the planned stop as part of the city's new trolleybus line.
The project envisages energy-efficient buildings, also, thanks to the use of renewable energy technologies technologies, in line with the highest standards of LEED certification.
The initiative includes public works outside the site, particularly the redevelopment of the area in front of Veronafiere.
The proximity to Verona Porta Nuova train station, the subject of the new high-speed rail link Brennero - Verona (Fortezza - Bolzano), makes the new Manifattura Tabacchi even more connected.
Facts and Figures
The industrial complex dates back to the 1930s.
The first buildings were in fact built in 1932. Between the 1950s and the 1960s the complex was expanded, realizing the hefty deposit which, with its impressive size, still dominates Viale del Lavoro.
